Djokovic and Medvedev play first thriller of 2023

They are often evenly matched on hard-court (total head to head is 8-4 for Djokovic) and are already paired again in the Adelaide semifinals: Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev. The last confrontation at the ATP Finals became a three-setter, with Medvedev in the third set inexplicably suddenly giving away the match he was able to serve out to his great rival. Djokovic then won in the third set 7-6 (6-2).

But the match in Kazakhstan, the showdown before it, was one to remember. A true Djokovic-Medvedev clash with an absolutely sublime tie-break. That was perhaps one of the best tie-breaks ever. The men reached an unprecedented level and the difference was made as they both sprinkled drop shots like they were buying a sandwich at the bakery. Unfortunately, after the tiebreak, the third set was supposed to begin, but Medvedev suddenly gave a hand to the dumbfounded Djokovic. He was injured.

Saturday the hard-court rivals face each other again, this time in Adelaide at 11 a.m. Dutch time. Medvedev had a poor 2022, but seems to be winning his matches easily this year. Djokovic has been playing fantastic since Turin and seems unbeatable. He is therefore the favorite with an odd of 1.50.
