Federer to say goodbye to tennis in doubles match alongside longtime rival Nadal

This year's Laver Cup will mark the farewell of tennis legend Roger Federer. The competition, which will be played at the O2 Arena in London, is being organized for the fifth time. The concept has come over from golf where we see the annual Ryder Cup between team Europe and team World. Last week Federer announced that the Laver Cup will be his last trick, but doubts remain as to whether the Swiss can actually compete.

From Friday, Sept. 23 to Sunday, Sept. 25, we will probably be able to enjoy Roger Federer one more time. The 41-year-old legend is saying goodbye to professional tennis. The Swissman has indicated that he is not physically up for a singles match, sos he will be limiting himself to a doubles match. His partner is none other than the man who can safely be considered to be Federer's greatest rival, Rafael Nadal.

Of course, Federer is part of team Europe coached by Björn Borg with former player Thomas Enqvist as assistant. In addition to Federer and Nadal, the team includes Novak Djokovic, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Casper Ruud and Andy Murray. Reserve player is Matteo Berrettini. Opponent team World is coached by John and Patrick McEnroe. Players are Felix Auger-Aliassime, Taylor Fritz, Diego Schwartman, Alex de Minaur, Frances Tiafoe and Jack Sock. Reserve is Tommy Paul.

What does the Laver Cup entail?

The goal of the tournament is to score thirteen points as a team. On match day one, matches won are worth one point, on game day two double that, and on the final day a win earns as many as three points. Three singles matches and one doubles match are played each day. Team Europe has won the first four editions and is again heavily favoured for the final victory with an odd of 1.15 at 5.00. On the match day itself we will publish the odds of all the duels to be played.
