Serie A preview matchday 1: High odds for Napoli victory, big teams avoid each other on first weekend

After months of summer break, the new football season is finally starting to get underway! Saturday 13 August sees the Serie A kick off as one of the last competitions. Reigning champions AC Milan will be in action as well. Who are the top teams up against and what are the odds?

Last season, AC Milan surprisingly pulled out the stops after remaining unbeaten for no fewer than four months. The last time the club became champion was in the 2010-2011 season, after which Juventus took the title nine times in a row. Internazionale broke the Turin hegemony in 2020-2021 and although they dit not retain it, the title did end up staying in Milan, with their arch-rivals.

During the opening weekend, the top teams all seem to be facing relatively easy opponents on paper. AC Milan takes on Udinese, last season's number 12, on Saturday. Later on during the day Atalanta are set to face Sampdoria, while Internazionale take on last season's Serie B champions, Lecce.

Nice odds for newcomer Monza

The most interesting match is probably that of newly promoted Monza against Torino. Torino finished neatly in tenth place last season, and still have top striker Andrea Belotti in their ranks. Apart from last season, the top marksman has been involved in at least 15 goals per season for years. Monza finished fourth in Serie B last year, after which the club secured promotion through the playoffs. Nevertheless, they are slight favourites with the bookies, so a bet on Torino or on goals could be very advantageous. Both teams have regularly been involved in high goal-scoring matches. Should Torino win you will earn as much as 2.70 times your stake! If more than 2.5 goals are scored, the quote 2.10, is not bad either!

On Sunday, Fiorentina, FC Twente's possible opponent in the Conference League play-offs, play a home match against the final newly promoted team, Cremonese, where last season's Feyenoord and Conference League revelation Cyriel Dessers has just signed. Lazio still have last season's top scorer, Ciro Immobile, among their ranks. The club takes on mid-tier Bologna. Should he continue to score merrily this season, you'll get 1.66 times your stake out of it this weekend. If you believe he will become top scorer again, it will earn you 5.80 times your bet. In addition to the aforementioned clubs, José Mourinho's AS Roma will also be in action on Sunday.

Napoli and Juventus on Monday

On Monday, you can win quite a lot of money with the Verona-Napoli match. Napoli were in the race for the title for a long time last season, but ultimately had to settle for third place. Verona finished in ninth place. On paper Napoli is the strongest, yet you get only at least 2.10 times your stake back! Record holder Juventus will be the last to take action this round of games. The Old Lady closes the ball against Sassuolo, which for years has been a stable mid-table player, with occasional outliers to the subtop.
