Nyck de Vries may still lose his seat at AlphaTauri during this season, sources report to the Dutch branch of Motorsport.com. The Dutchman's performances have been disappointing compared with teammate Yuki Tsunoda. Daniel Ricciardo should replace De Vries should it come to that.
De Vries currently stands at zero points in his debut season in Formula 1, while teammate Tsunoda has managed to bring in two points. The Japanese driver is currently making the most of a year in which the Red Bull Racing's sister team of have disappointed considerably. The AT04, as the car of the Faenza-based racing stable is called, can be considered the slowest of the field.
In addition to the results, De Vries also crashes quite regularly. He crashed twice during the Grand Prix weekend in Azerbaijan and again crashed during the start of the Miami Grand Prix last weekend. Then the 28-year-old from Sneek collided with the back of Lando Norris' McLaren. De Vries eventually finished eighteenth, ahead of fellow debutants Oscar Piastri and Logan Sargeant.
Ricciardo possible replacement for De Vries at AlphaTauri
Should De Vries actually lose his seat, Ricciardo is ready to replace him. The Australian lost his seat at McLaren last year and is currently running as Red Bull's third driver. Helmut Marko wants De Vries to improve his performance, and the Dutchman still has until the Spanish Grand Prix early next month to work on that. Otherwise, Ricciardo, who would have already been in Faenza, will get his seat.
