"He is the worst referee I've encountered in my career"

José Mourinho is not pleased with referee Daniele Chiffi after AS Roma's 1-1 draw against Monza. The Italian referee dealt a red card to a player of AS Roma after the player slipped and already dealt Mourinho a yellow card in the first half. In total, he drew as many as ten cards.

Mourinho has been a head coach in football for 23 years, but he is confident when he says: "He is the worst referee I have encountered in my career. And believe me, I have encountered many bad referees," said the Portuguese coach to DAZN. Chiffi gave Roma player Zeki Celik a red card in the final stages of the game. Celik received a yellow card in the 91st and 95th minutes, but it ultimately did not affect the outcome of the game.

Celik received the second yellow card after the player slipped. "He is just terrible," Mourinho assessed the referee's decision. "He does not make a human connection and has no empathy. He draws red for a player who slips. There are already clubs that have reported that they no longer want Chiffi as a referee. But apparently AS Roma is not capable of doing that. It's apparently not in our DNA."

Because of the draw, AS Roma drops to seventh place, but Mourinho's team still has a good chance of qualifying for European football. The gap with fourth-placed Internazionale is only two points, with five games left. However, the draw against Monza marks the third consecutive game without a victory for AS Roma.
