Horner reveals which driver he would have liked to have seen race for Red Bull in F1: 'He was hugely talented'

Christian Horner has had two world champions within his ranks, with Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel. Daniel Ricciardo, Sergio Pérez and Mark Webber also managed to give the Austrian team a number of wins. So, in terms of good drivers, Red Bull Racing has had little to complain about, but Horner, when asked, reveals which drivers he would have liked to have seen join his team in the past. The Brit goes on to discuss the qualities that make Verstappen and Vettel just that little bit better than the other drivers with a Red Bull past.

With Verstappen and Pérez, Red Bull will have the numbers one and two in the world championship in 2023. Horner has nothing to complain about the driver pair either, and in the past, too, with Vettel, Ricciardo and Webber, there were some fine drivers on the payroll. When asked in the Extraordinary Tales With Seb Coe podcast which drivers he would like to have seen race for Red Bull, he does have a few names ready.

At the top of Horner's list is seven-time Grand Prix winner Juan Pablo Montoya. 'There have been a few over the past few years,' Horner starts off. 'I think Montoya has underperformed in the F1. I think he was a tremendously talented driver who could have achieved more in the Formula 1. There was also a guy named Tom Kristensen, who achieved tremendous success in sports cars.'

Horner saw early talent in Verstappen and Vettel

Formula 1 has had many big names, but some drivers have just a little more than others. 'So many great talents have passed, but they are all different. They all have their own personality and their own characteristics. But with the good drivers, there is that same relentless determination. I saw that with Max (Verstappen, ed.) and Sebastian (Vettel, ed.) beforehand. They are prepared to go the extra mile," Horner said.
