Paris Saint-Germain sees Lionel Messi's successor walking around at Real Madrid

Marco Asensio is available on a free transfer from Real Madrid and seemed set to sign with Aston Villa. However, PSG wants to hijack that transfer and ensure that the Spanish player can be admired at Parc des Princes next season.

Spanish outlet AS even reports that Asensio is very close to a move to France and Fabrizio Romano also confirms the interest. The transfer expert states that Asensio's agent, Jorge Mendes, is in talks with the Ligue 1 winner. This turn of events is surprising, as Romano had already reported on Monday that Aston Villa was pursuing the services of the winger.

Aston Villa was faster than the French club and already made an offer, but it seems that it might not be enough after all. The Premier League club is now in the waiting room, as it depends on Asensio's decision. He could sign a multi-year contract with PSG.

Real Madrid acquired the now 27-year-old Asensio for approximately four million from RCD Mallorca in the summer of 2015.
